Katmandu Handwoven Wool Rug — Grey (Grey)

Katmandu is a quiet, timeless foundation where 100% New Zealand wool meets the flatweave technique. A blend of wool fibers spun in different tones creates a depth that a single color cannot achieve: a calm sense of unity from afar, and a subtly melange texture up close. It brings furniture to the forefront in living and sitting rooms without demanding attention. This variant is a neutral grey softened with beige undertones; it appears cool in northern light and warm in the evening light.

New Zealand Wool

With its long fibers and naturally high luster, New Zealand wool is among the most respected materials in the world of rug making. The natural resilience of the fiber helps the rug retain its shape for years; its hand is soft, while its presence is refined and substantial.

Material and Construction

  • Material: 100% New Zealand Wool
  • Weaving: Handwoven
  • Pile Structure: Flatweave
  • Weight per M²: 1800 g
  • Color: Grey

What Makes Katmandu Different

Each rug is woven individually on the loom by skilled artisans. The melange surface is created not with dye, but by blending the fibers' natural tones — which is why it comes alive with the light and gains character over time. Its pile-free construction is slim and disciplined; it does not cause problems beneath doors and retains its form under heavy use with its 1800 g/m² structure.

Care

Regular vacuuming is sufficient; in the event of spills, absorb the liquid immediately with a dry cloth. Deep cleaning should be entrusted only to a professional rug-cleaning service.

Sizes

The Katmandu handwoven wool rug is available in the following standard sizes:

  • 100 x 200 cm
  • 100 x 300 cm
  • 160 x 230 cm
  • 200 x 300 cm
  • 300 x 400 cm

When choosing a size, a rug large enough to accommodate the front legs of the seating group creates the most balanced proportion for the space.

Custom Size Production

Katmandu can be woven to suit your space beyond the standard sizes. The workshop produces it in any length you choose, with width options of 100, 160, 200, and 300 cm; you determine the dimensions for large living rooms, hallways, and architectural projects.

Protect Your Rug’s Elegance
A careful care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations—pieces that add value to your living space—for generations to come.

Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, remove the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only—never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.

Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent uneven color changes (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.

Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Delicate materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.

Washing Instructions
The delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models clearly marked “Washable” in their names may be washed in household machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
